Did you know that the basic reason to do yoga postures was to align your individuated energy with the energy of the entire universe? To remind yourself that you are a wave in that ocean? To get back into that flowing, wave nature and know yourself for who you truly are?
Asana has been turned into many things -- from exercise to stress relief to preparation for meditation (the closest version) -- but it's not any of those things because it's something so much more profoundly significant.
Knowing this has changed my relationship to yoga posture after over 25 years of studying many yoga lineages.
In this workshop, we'll explore how this can also change YOUR yoga.
We'll also bring in many of the other practices that comprise a holistic approach to this path. Culturally, we've watered down yoga and subsequently robbed ourselves of a powerful and life changing approach to understanding ourselves and the bigger picture.
We'll incorporate a lot of postures but also: breath, mantra, mudra (sacred hand postures), and even more basic acts of devotion, like focusing on that which you are devoted to and listening to bits of sacred text. (In particular, we'll be using The Radiance Sutras, so if you have them, bring them.)
In that light, feel free to bring something that represents your devotion.
